March 3/16 - Dead Silence - *** - Not much to say about this movie. It was so/so. Ending was pretty good.
Concerts / Conventions 2/13 - Dir En Grey @ House of Blues in Chicago - ** 1/2 - You would think a metal show would be good, well the band was anyways. Filled with Emo kids from hot topic, crying and whining. I was the oldest at the show at 23 years old. There were kids there ranging from 6 to 13. One kid even had make-up on his face that looked like stretch marks. The fans ruined the show. BroodingHope 02-03-2007, 03:59 PM Like others, first time viewings are in bold
January
1/30 Pan's Labyrinth 5/5 1/31 Saw III 3/5
February 2/1 Fight Club 5/5 2/2 Oldboy 5/5 2/3 In the Mouth of Madness 3/5 2/4 Hellraiser 3/5 2/7 Office Space 3/5 (this seems like one of those movies that will grow more on me as I watch it) 2/10 Mallrats 4/5 (I'm surprised it's taken me this long to see it. Great movie with the characters and humor that I love) 2/11 Jackass 2 5/5 2/11 Desperation 2/5 (Why must all King adaptations be overlong and boring?) 2/11 Chasing Amy 3/5 (Diatribes about the plight of the homosexuals and hopeless romantics certainly felt out of place in a Kevin Smith "comedy") 2/13 World Trade Center 3/5 2/15 Norbit 2/5 2/18 Scary Movie 4 3/5 (I've only ever seen Scary Movie 2 prior to this so the formula doesn't seem as warn out to me) 2/18 Pelts 4/5 2/19 The Village 4/5 2/19 Unbreakable 5/5 (Probably my favorite of M Night's so far) 2/20 Love Object 3/5 (Would have worked better in an hour format) 2/24 For Your Consideration 2/5 ( I don't know, I love all of Guest's other films but couldn't get into this one) 2/26 The Number 23 3/5 (Highly enjoyable on many levels, however the reveal was a bit abrupt and far out there) 2/27 Capote 3/5 (Excellent performance by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. The story was about Truman Capote's life being turned upside down by his friendship with two death row inmates that were the subject of his newest book, however, I don't think the film was able to convey this change convincingly) 2/27 Halloween 4 3/5 (Good gore, some truly great cinematography, classic ending make this one of my favs in the long running Halloween series) 2/27 Decoys 4/5 (Highly enjoyable horror/sci-fi/comedy) 2/28 Hellbound: Hellraiser II 3/5 (I liked it as much as the first in the series, but seriously, who edited this thing?)
March 3/5 Zodiac 4/5 (Great pacing, very realistic and likeable characters, even some humor thrown in for good measure) 3/6 The Departed 5/5 3/7 Borat 5/5 (Second time I've seen this film and while it isn't laugh out loud funny the second time the satire and social commentary shine through to make it enjoyable on a whole other level) 3/7 The Prestige 4/5 (Great cast and direction, the ending however predictable is quite satisfying) 3/9 Insomnia 3/5 3/12 Wild Hogs 0/5 (I'm glad that I didn't pay for the ticket, but I want this part of my life back) 3/13 Brick 4/5 3/14 Tideland 4/5 (Stays with you long after the credits roll) 3/15 The Brothers Grimm 2/5 3/19 Dead Silence 4/5 (Mary Shaw is one of the creepiest onscreen characters since Julian Beck in Poltergeist) 3/19 Stir of Echoes 3/5 3/19 Candyman 4/5 3/19 Raging Bull 5/5 3/20 I Think I Love My Wife 3/5 (Can't a nigga get a taco!) 3/20 Pro-Life 2/5 3/20 The Color of Money 5/5 3/21 Jacob's Ladder 5/5 3/21 Big Trouble in Little China 4/5 (Greatest.Movie.Ever) 3/22 The Relic 2/5 3/23 Slugs 3/5 (So-bad-it's-good style movie with the most unplausible storyline I've ever seen) 3/23 Do You Like Hitchcock? 4/5 3/25 For Your Consideration 3/5 (I needed something to put on while I was cleaning and I must say this movie is getting better each time I watch. It's a lot more subtle in some of its delivery than other Guest films) 3/26 Reign Over Me 5/5 (If Sandler doesn't get some sort of nod for his performance then I don't know what I'll do with myself) 3/27 Dark Ride 2/5 (Started out decent enough, but paper-thin characters and an ending that can be seen from a mile away make this one boring flick) 3/27 Unrest 3/5 (Creepy atmosphere and interesting premise bring a lot to this supernatural horror film, however an uneven script and ludicrous ending bring it down just a peg. Although one should watch it for the female lead, hot stuff.) 3/28 Wicked Little Things 3/5
April 4/2 The Hills Have Eyes 2 2.5/5 (While I don't pan it as much as everyone else so far it is far from a great movie. Some good gore throughout. To me it was a so bad it's good kind of movie. It had horrible dialogue which was laugh out loud funny in parts. I don't know, it's a popcorn flick more or less.) 4/2 The Marine 3/5 4/3 The Hamiltons 4/5 4/3 The Gravedancers 3.5/5 4/5 Meet the Robinsons 3/5 4/9 Shocker 1.5/5 (This could have been shaved by about 40 minutes and been a hell of a lot more entertaining. The only good thing seems to be the soundtrack) 4/11 Planet Terror 3/5 4/11 Death Proof 5/5 (It may sound crazy to some, but I thought Death Proof was ten times better than Planet Terror. Also, this is by far my favorite Tarantino movie yet, hell, it will probably turn out to be one of my favorite movies of all time) 4/11 Children of Men 5/5 (While watching this with my girlfriend she asked, do you ever think the world could get like this? The scary thing is, I don't think we're far off) 4/15 Enter the Dragon 5/5 4/15 Over the Top 5/5 (Classic cheese. One of my favorite Stallone movies. So bad it's good. Who wouldn't want to arm wrestle for the custody of their son?) 4/16 Disturbia 3/5
May 5/7 Hellboy 3/5 5/7 Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth 2/5 5/7 An American Werewolf in London 4/5 5/12 Deep Red 3/5 (Probably my favorite Argento film so far in terms of cinematography and color. I just can't seem to get past the paper thin characters and an ending that feels awfully tacked on. The score, however, is probably my favorite of any movie, ever.) 5/16 Turistas 2/5 5/16 Black Christmas (1974) 4/5 (Extremely effective psychological horror) 5/16 Black Christmas (2006) 1/5 (I felt like I was watching Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 6) 5/19 Shrek the Third 3/5 (Better than the first but the second is far far superior) 5/20 Idle Hands 4/5 5/21 Shaun of the Dead 4/5 5/22 28 Weeks Later 5/5 (Reviews cannot do it justice. One of the most breathtaking movies I've ever seen.) 5/22 Kill Bill Volume 1 4/5 5/26 Return of the Living Dead 3/5 5/26 Shock-0-Rama 1/5 (Save for scenes with Misty Mundae this is pretty much worthless)
June 6/1 Knocked Up 5/5 6/2 Unleashed 4/5 (Unlike any other martial arts/action movie I've seen) 6/4 The Prowler 3/5 6/4 My Bloody Valetine 2.5/5 6/4 The Dead Next Door 4/5 (Surprisingly competant 80's zombie fest, it's also a plus that it [/B]was made in my hometown of Akron, Ohio) 6/9 Penny Dreadful 0/5 (I couldn't find one redeeming aspect to this shitfest) 6/12 Hostel II 3/5 (I'd have to see this one again before I'd give it a final rating. The first half dragged for me aside from the scenes featuring Roger Bart. This guy is amazing.) 6/12 The Screwfly Solution 1/5 (Excellent premise, horrible acting, horrible overall execution) 6/12 The Amityville Horror (1979) 3/5 6/12 Pet Sematary 3/5 6/13 The Producers 3/5 6/19 Vacancy 3.5/5 6/21 Reno 911! Miami 3/5 (The individual skits were hilarious, however trying to stretch out these skits into a feature length movie didn't work out quite so well) 6/22 Reno 911! Miami 3/5 (I watched it again almost immediately after the first viewing since I'm such a big fan of the show, and I still agree with my first score, although the scene of Junior and Dangle at Suge Knights birthday bash is one of the funniest thing I've seen in recent memory) 6/28 1408 3/5 (Best King adaptation I've seen in a long while) 6/28 Blades of Glory 4/5 (After the highly dissapointing Talledaga Nights, Will Ferrel comes back with a gem that delivers his own brand of quirky comedy. There are so many great one-liners in this movie that it's unreal) 6/28 300 5/5 (I'm glad I got to see this in theaters because I don't think that a home viewing would do it as much justice, it's an epic movie that needs to be seen in an epic way. It's amazing to me to think how much Zak Snyder has grown as a director since Dawn of the Dead (2004)) 6/29 Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon 5/5 Choptop 03-18-2007, 06:23 PM I'm only three months late on this one... Five star system, first time viewings are in bold, otherwise red.
Starting with what I can recall, I will be more meticulous in the future!
Viewed sometime after January 2007 but before March 2007
Monty Python & The Holy Grail ***** - Does it get much better? My most recent viewing was in my car, on my iPod driving up north. Good times.
Idiocracy *** - A highly underrated, very quotable and mostly funny film by Mike Judge. Mostly funny but partly scary because the subject matter is on the borderline of art imitating life. I'm just glad I won't live 500 years :nervous:. Viewed most recently on the iPod.
Beerfest *** - Broken Lizard's follow up to Club Dread (which I still haven't seen) is truly a movie after my heart. I've noticed alot of converts from Macro Swill (Bud, Miller, Coors etc...) to Craft Beer at the local brewpub and they all attribute this movie as their inspiration for the move. Most recently view on the iPod while driving.
Dumb & Dumber *** - Again, most recently viewed on my iPod while driving (are we noticing a trend here?) and it really is a good "road trip" movie. Insanely quotable and truly mindless, but oh so funny.
March 2007
Breach **** - Good performances all around, well written, nicely paced... Just a solid movie and a good offering. I've read some praising Cooper in particular and while I'm not one to give into hype, I wouldn't be surprised to see him land an Oscar nod. Chunkblower 09-06-2007, 07:59 PM I use a 5 star system and first time viewings are in bold.
