A superior giallo and certainly one of Argento's best. After deadly
premonitions of her own death, a psychic is violently murdered by an
unknown assailant. But the dastardly death is witnessed by a jazz
musician (David Hemmings) wandering by and soon he's drawn into a
complex web of questions, motives...and horrible danger. Superb from
beginning to end. Highlighted by some of the most memorable death
sequences, including the medium's nasty hatchet end as well as a brutal
death-by-scalding water. Hemmings and Daria Nicolodi shine as the case
sleuths, the killer's identity (& motive) generally workable.
Argento's effective use of gore really propels the plot, while a great
score by Goblin and an overall atmosphere of menace (& real
suspense) permeate.
